STATEMENT OF INTENT
One part homage. One part irony. Día de los Modernist is a series of portraits that playfully pays tribute to modern design’s ancestry, while also questioning the period's dogma. The aesthetic adapts and translates the skulls and floral motifs of Día de los Muertos into the controlled reductionism of Modernism. Iconic references to the designer's body of work are embedded into each respective background pattern. This work explores the collision of these diverse formal styles and cultural values.
DISCLAIMER
Día de los Modernist are meant to inspire but, if placed over your workspace, they may cause intimidation and/or a feeling of inferiority as they watch over you with disapproval of your post-modernist ways.
